In the early 1870's, a man named Charley had a gold claim

near Deer Creek, Montana.  Wells Fargo tried to buy the

claim, but Charley wouldn't sell.  So Wells Fargo bought

the land all around his and cut off his water.  Unable to

work his claim, Charley wrote to his wife and told her that

he would get even with them.  And he did.  He moved to

California and, between 1875

and 1883 he robbed the Wells Fargo stage 28 times--as

Black Bart...
